Candle Making Basics For Beginners

With the recent economic times, many people are changing the way they spend their money and one of the things they have started to do is making the items they formerly purchased. Candle making is one example of a hobby that is easy to take up and if you make candles of your own accord, you will likely save a tidy sum of money as well. When you make your own candles, you can also personalize them, and by doing this can likely use them as gifts as well as in your own home. You can choose what type of wax, fragrance, colors or other additives you want to use.

Paraffin is only one of many kinds of wax that can be used for candle making. It is a product of petroleum and it is the most common kind in store bought candles. However, you may want to consider using another type of wax.

Many soy based waxes are being produced in the united States which in turn is making it easier for the consumer to buy them. Also plentiful are the palm wax and the beeswax candles. Palm wax can create a gorgeous marbling effect on a candle as it cools, and beeswax candles can be found at most local beekeepers.

First you have to determine what method you wish to employ. If you intend to manufacture molded candles, a mold will be necessary for the wax to be poured into. There are internet vendors who sell all the items you will need for candle making. They carry molds, although you could also try creating your own, using a milk carton for instance. Remember, however, that a mold has to be able to stand up to the high temperature of molten wax.

As well as a large kettle for melting the wax in, candle making requires various ingredients such as wicks, natural fragrances and colorants. Those with desire to use natural essential oils are able to choose from a vast array. Herbs such as beet root or tumeric can be used for coloring purposes.

You should also consider purchasing a book on the basics of candle making for beginners in case you encounter any questions or issues while you are starting out making your own. If you have the willingness to experiment and a good reference book, it won't be long before you, too, will be making beautiful hand-crafted candles.

In today's recession, many people are looking to save money by making the products they need instead of buying them. If you're someone who wants to make your own candles, for instance, it's fairly easy to get started; all that is required are some basic ingredients, such as wicks, fragrances, and wax (soy-based wax is available for the environmentally conscious), and a good reference book. Candle making is fairly easy to learn, most of the materials required to make candles can be found online, and candles can be customized in terms of scent, shape, and color.
