Freeware Games: Resources On The Internet
At the turn of the 21st century there were tons of freeware games available for players. However, they weren't of good enough quality to excite most people. Most of them fell into one of two mediocre categories: crudely made puzzle, card, and arcade games with little depth, or demos of more involved games which could be played for a short period of time before they required a player to make a large payment in order to continue. These games were met with little enthusiasm even though a lot of people played them, because that's all there was.
We're in luck, though, because things in the gaming world have changed for the better. You can find freeware games now that are much improved in quality and available in many more genres than just the old solitaires and word-based games. Now you can choose from games that are full of action, role playing, adventure, sports, driving, and strategy. Don't give into cynicism by seeing the word "freeware" and jumping to conclusions that today's freeware is as poorly made as its predecessors. Actually, many of the freeware games today are the equals of retail competitors when it comes to level of play, high-quality, and complexity of action.
This all sounds just great, but you need to be able to find these games. In particular, people are looking for fantasy and sci-fi rpg online games, which have surged in popularity recently. There are now many resources to assist you in finding them. One good place to look is in a gaming magazine. Most publications have a section devoted to internet-based games, even though they focus primarily on store-bought games. Magazines are now even including information on shareware and freeware games.
Directory is another good place to find a freeware. It's a special site the sole purpose of which is to help visitors locate the required sites according to their subject of interests. Obviously, a directory dedicated for gaming is a better site to visit than a generalized one, since it is dedicated for games and can help visitors searching for the games of their choices which can be paid, shareware or freeware. Don't stop with a generic gaming directory since there are directories which are specialized in locating freeware alone.
Try using a search engine like Google to locate freeware games. Using a search engine should be used as a last resort since searches for free stuff tends to bring up many spam and warez sites that are designed to take advantage of these queries.
The bottom line for most people in a discussion of freeware games is whether the games are truly free, or are their catches involved? Yes, they're free, and no, there are no catches. They are one of the few free things in life. All you have to do is sign up with a name and email address. In some cases, high-speed internet connection is required. Once you've taken care of these few technicalities, the games are yours to enjoy. So if you've been skeptically avoiding freeware, worry no more. Today there are games of high-quality and excellent content that are as good as the best commercial games - and they're free!
Gamers can have their pick of role-playing, sports, strategy, and action-adventure games. There are even driving games online. It may be tempting to cynically assume that this new generation of freeware is poorly made. On the contrary, many of them actually match the level, quality, and complexity of their more commercial competitors. Everything is fine except for the query, where can one find the fantasy and sci-fi RPG online games that have gained big popularity? Fortunately, we have so many resources that would help one locate them. Many people wonder whether or not freeware games are really free with no hidden catches.
